Re-Enchanting the City III 2004 Conference Photos

On October 16, 2004, over 200 Officials, Educators, Students, and Acitivists attended the Re-Enchanting the City III Conference at Friendship Auditorium in Griffith Park, Los Angeles, California. The theme of the conference was "Overpassses, Under Crossings, Wild Corridors, Green Passages For Our Wildlife". Conference attendees heard presentations by experts, and later joined in workshops about the importance and need for wildlife corridors, what is already being to done to provide them, and what needs to be done in the future to guarantee the creation and expansion of wildlife corridors between increasingly fragmented wildlife habitat.
As conference speaker Paul Caron, Chief District Biologist of the California Department of Transportation stated: "Growth is inevitable.,, With growth comes more roads, and with those roads, consideration to the wildlife it will affect is a growing concern for managers, engineers, biologists, and ecologists. Planning, mitigation, maintenance, and monitoring are the keys to an effective plan for wildlife crossings."

Some of the distinguished speakers and the issues they discussed were:
Dr. John Hadidian, Director of Urban Wildlife, Humane Society of the United States: OUR WILDLIFE NEEDS HELP! GREEN CORRIDORS AND GREEN ACTIVISM,
Paul Caron, Chief District Biologist, California Department of Transportation: BARRIER TO DIVERSITY; CALIFORNIA WILDLIFE, THE 118 FREEWAY AND OTHER DILEMMAS
Susan Hagood, Wildlife Expert, HSUS: OVERPASSES, UNDERCROSSINGS AND WILD CORRIDORS; THE NEW TECHNOLOGIES
Dr. Ray Sauvajot, Chief of Planning and Extension, National Park Service: BIODIVERSITY AND THE MOUNTAIN LION PROJECT
Kristeen Penrod, Executive Director, South Coast Wild Lands: THE MISSING LINKAGES; RESTORING CONNECTIONS IN MOUNTAIN HABITAT
